We provide free and low-barrier education, support services and resources for middle and high school aged youth, and young adults up to age 24.

We offer outreach and referrals for services that are focused on African American students with the greatest need such as those experiencing non-academic barriers to learning students not yet meeting grade-level learning standards resulting from family or youth substance use issues.

We work with students less likely to access care in the community, and other historically underserved student groups, including students experiencing homelessness and LGBTQ students.

About Project Student Care

This comprehensive program designed for adolescent high schoolers ages 12 to 18 features four primary components delivered by one of our CPRS, Licensed Counselor’s or Mental Health Staff:

  • The Prevention Education Series

  • Drug/Alcohol awareness

  • Tobacco and vaping prevention sessions

  • Substance misuse curriculum

The goal of Project Student Care is to leverage this educational programming, along with school-wide activities and promotional materials to help positively change social norms surrounding substance use and improve outcomes throughout the community. Students requiring more intensive counseling or treatment will be referred to appropriate support members and providers in the community.

Project Student Care stands out as it offers an effective solution for preventing and reducing substance abuse among adolescents aged 12-18. By providing hands-on educational programming in schools and in the community. Project Student Care teaches students not only about the dangers of substance abuse but also about the keys to prevention.

We use research-based interventions that effectively reduces risk factors related to substance use and enhances protective factors

Leveraging Prevention Principles in Intervention

The student Intervention service is based on the following proven prevention principles:

  • Increasing perception risk of harm

  • Changing adolescents’ norms and expectations about substance use

  • Building and enhancing social resistance skills

  • Changing community norms and values regarding substance use

  • Fostering resilience and protective factors, especially in high-risk youth

The three-session program involves at-risk youth in the initial two sessions and brings in a parent or guardian for the third and final session.

We use a comprehensive screening tool (SBIRT). This widely used approach to care is a primary tool for identifying risky substance use behaviors and providing appropriate intervention techniques. Designed for teens who’ve experienced mild to moderate problems associated with alcohol or drugs, the Teen Intervene program allows teenagers to work one-to-one with an addiction treatment counselor to identify choices and change behaviors.

Helping Teens Make Healthier Choices

For teens who may have experimented with drugs or alcohol, but aren’t yet addicted, a simple intervention can provide valuable education that can promote healthy decision-making for years to come.

This research-based intervention can help teens identify the driving factors behind their choice to use alcohol or drugs, thoughtfully examine the effects in their lives, and learn how to make better choices. With early interventions, parents and caregivers can support teens and help them gain valuable skills that will help them navigate complex social situations and learn how to make safe and responsible choices surrounding alcohol and drugs. Additionally, these interventions provide teens with the opportunity to build strong relationships with peers and develop effective communication patterns which can set the foundation for a successful future.

Educating Kids about the Dangers of Opioid and Drug Use

One of the goals of CCC is to raise awareness about opioid and stimulant use/ misuse including their effects, and what local resources and treatment options are available to prevent and treat their use and abuse.

With substance abuse starting at earlier ages, we are looking to public schools to help revamp their drug abuse education programs

We are continuously adapting our services to meet the needs of the community promoting self-sufficiency for youth and families by increasing prevention services and programming in communities and schools to ensure access to needed behavioral health services, peer support, like substance misuse disorder screenings and treatment referrals
